The Mass Save Program
The Sponsors of Mass Save are transforming the way Massachusetts residents use energy by creating a better, more sustainable future. As part of this initiative, the program offers rebates to eligible homeowners who install energy-efficient heat pumps to heat and cool their homes. Not only does this reduce carbon emissions across our nation, but it also helps homeowners save on energy bills without compromising their comfort.
At Suburban HVAC, we’re proud to be a Mass Save Heat Pump Installer Network member. Our dedicated and experienced team is here to help you take advantage of these unmatched savings on heat pump installation to keep your home at the perfect temperature year-round.
Call Suburban HVAC today or contact our team online to learn more about the Mass Save Program and the available rebates.
Heat Pump Rebates
Air-source heat pumps work by transferring heat into and out of your home, not by generating it. Plus, they don’t use fossil fuels like gas- or oil-fired furnaces or boilers. That’s what makes them an energy-efficient option for Massachusetts homeowners. In addition to federal tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, homeowners can also take advantage of rebates on the installation of a new, eco-friendly heat pump to offset the initial investment in eco-friendly home comfort.
The Sponsors of Mass Save offer rebates based on equipment size (tonnage) and whether the new heat pump will be the sole source for heating and cooling:
- Whole-home rebates of $3,000 per ton capped at $10,000 are available for those who install heat pumps as their only home comfort system.
- Partial-home rebates are available for those who supplement an existing system with a heat pump and are offered based on equipment size at $1,250 per ton.
Who Is Eligible?
Requirements for eligibility include:
- Rebates are only available to residents who are occupied full-time during the winter season.
- Offers are valid only for residential customers replacing oil, propane, or electric resistance heating systems, whereas Cape Light Compact, Eversource, National Grid, or Unitil are the Mass Save Electric Sponsors.
- Offers are valid only for residential customers replacing natural gas heating systems where Berkshire Gas, Eversource, Liberty Utilities, National Grid, or Unitil is the Mass Save Natural Gas Sponsor
- Equipment must be installed by a contractor participating in the Mass Save Heat Pump Installer Network between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2025.
- Equipment must be ENERGY STAR® Cold Climate certified and listed on the Mass Save Heat Pump Qualified Products List.
- Equipment must be new and installed to replace oil, propane, natural gas, or electric baseboard (resistance) as the primary heating system.
- Partial-home rebates: An integrated control from the Mass Save Integrated Control Qualified Product List must be installed for heating zones where propane, oil, or natural gas will remain in use.
- Whole-home rebates: Homes must be sufficiently weatherized prior to heat pump installation, and a whole-home heat pump verification form must be completed and signed.
- The rebate form and supporting documentation must be received by Feb. 28, 2026.
